What is Polyurethane Rubber
Polyurethane holds mechanical properties that give it the strength of rigid plastic combined with the elasticity of rubber
Polyurethane rubber is an elastomeric material made from polymers which has been adapted to produce a broad spectrum of products. Polyurethane holds mechanical properties that give it the strength of rigid plastic combined with the elasticity of rubber. Consequently, being an elastomer it has two main traits – elasticity and resiliency. In addition, Polyurethane Rubber is known for;
• Water, oil and grease resistant
• Strong bonding properties
• Electrical resistance
• High resiliency for wear/tear
• Moderate temperature resistance
• Impact absorption
• Good recovery when compressed
Where is it Used?
Due to its high resistance to abrasion and tears, it can be found in a number of products, from gaskets to paint rollers to gel pads. Due to its anti-vibration properties it is also commonly used in automotive, plant & machinery and other transportation sectors. It is also a popular material of choice for numerous parts such as gaskets, tubing, sheet, belts and hoses – all frequently used in automotive.
The low weight of elastomers and their machinability, also make Polyurethane rubber a great choice for dozens of applications in building and construction.
Are there any limits to Polyurethane Rubber?
Being a composite material, it is more costly than other alternative materials
